While I’m working on some sample knitting and secret knitting, let me recommend that whatever you are working on, you should listen to the audio version of Nicole Krauss’s Great House while you work on it.
I know some folks don’t like audio books, but that’s a sentiment that I don’t really get. Listening to a good book while knitting and drinking an adult beverage (or coffee, tea, etc.) is one of the great pleasures in my life. I can’t listen to just anything, I’ll admit that. I need a good reader, first of all. It needs to be a voice I can hang out with for hours upon hours. Sometimes I listen to audio versions of books I don’t want to take the time to reread, but kind of want to revisit – things like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Or books I feel like I should read but can’t seem to make time for. Full disclosure: I haven’t read the Harry Potter books. But I did listen to the first one on audio, and it was awesome, and I will totally see the series through in this format. But also any book with a plot or narrative voice that really hooks me and keeps my attention will do the trick, and Great House is definitely one of those. This is one I know I’ll also read in print at some point, but for the moment I am having a really wonderful time having this read aloud to me while I work.
